We have TWO kids!

Poor Brielle hasn't been in many pictures recently, so I thought I'd post a bunch that have her in them so that everyone remembers that we actually have two children now. =0) Brielle has been so lucky to have her Grandma Streadbeck come and stay with us, it's like a personal playmate 24/7 and Brielle just loves it!

Here's Brielle feeding her baby.

Brielle and Hyrum (this was a very hard picture to capture, Brielle either wanted to run, or to smoosh Hyrum to death with some sisterly loving!)

On a walk to the duck pond with Grandma.

Here are some cute faces of Brielle, her "oooooh look!" face and her stubborn face.

Born Laughing

Sure it's probably just gas, but Hyrum smiles for us all the time!

the many faces of Hyrum

We just love all of the cute faces our son makes!! They may just look like blank stares to the rest of you, but to his doting parents they're all different, unique and adorable!

Hyrum

A lot of people have asked us why we switched our baby's name to Hyrum, so I'm going to post the answer. We had told most everyone that we were naming this baby Brychan, that was the plan. Russell's favorite boy name was Hyrum, mine was Brychan, and Russ really liked the name Brychan as well, whereas it was going to take me a few more years to get on board with Hyrum, so we decided our first son should be named Brychan. However the more we referred to our son as Brychan (while I was pregnant) the less and less that seemed like it should be his name. So finally I told Russ that since Brychan really wasn't sounding right for this kid, if he wanted we could name our first son Hyrum instead of our second. You should have seen how excited he was. Downright giddy. I thought it was only fair since most of the kid names were my idea, Russ SHOULD be able to name his first son, especially since we don't know if we'll have any more boys, they could all be girls. Anyway, we left it somewhat open, we were going to wait and look at the kid before deciding for sure. And at five in the morning while Russ slept in the arm chair in the delivery room with the baby in his arms, I looked over (as the nurse whipped the epidural catheter from my spinal column!) and the baby's profile looked so much like Hyrum Smith (his namesake) that I told Russ that the baby could definitely be named Hyrum (Russ had been sure, I just needed a tad more convincing). So there you go! We officially decided on Hyrum an hour after he was born, so hopefully no one feels offended if they didn't hear about the name change ahead of time!

The Birth Story

It all started on Saturday. We were sitting in the Adult Session of Stake Conference and I was having a difficult time concentrating on the words of our visiting General Authority. I could tell I was feeling something, it just wasn't the spirit! I realized after several moments that I was having contractions so Russ started timing them and they were 3-5 minutes apart. After the conference we went home to pack a few things, took Brielle to my parents' house (where she crashed Uncle Matt's birthday party with all of his high school buddies) and we were off to the hospital.

Once there we found that I was dilated to a 4 and having nice regular contractions so they kept me. A few hours later they broke my water, a few minutes after that I asked for an epidural =0) and then at 4 in the morning our little son was born. It was WAY different than with Brielle, much much faster. He came out in only 5 pushes, and since he came out so quickly his poor little face was all blue and bruised. You can see in the picture below how blue he looked. This picture was taken AFTER the nurse cleaned him up and made sure he had adequate oxygen (note how pink his lips are, his body was pink/red too, just his face was so blue)

Pointing to the baby

Notice how worried both of those little faces are!! We're not sure about this whole "sibling" thing yet!!

His head is so tiny! It's the same size that Brielle's was but it just seems smaller to me.

Medical Marvel

So I noticed yesterday that I no longer have a belly button. I think this is of some medical importance. It's not that the belly button is no longer an "innie", that's normal in late pregnancy, and actually I've had an "outie" for months. No this is different. Now my belly button is completely gone, and in the spot where it used to reside there lies now just smooth skin. Smooth skin and a little star-like scar from my umbilicus. I would include pictures of this fascinating phenomenon, but unfortunately too many people have access to this blog and I'm afraid a huge stir would be caused among the medical community and I would be kidnapped in my sleep in the name of science, so you're just going to have to use your imaginations!

If this little guy grows any more I might actually burst. (however if that does happen you can be sure I'll include pictures!)

It's almost time......

With each doctor's appointment I go to, my doctor tells me again and again that the baby is going to come early. This is good and bad, I'm ready to not be pregnant, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to have two kids yet! Russ keeps telling me which days would be good for him for the baby to come. (We don't find this very amusing anymore!)

Meanwhile, Brielle is definitely not ready for a sibling.

(after sweetly feeding her baby doll a bottle, she picked up the rocker cushion and gently put her baby down, then smashed the pillow back down on top of the doll.......yikes!)
