End of Summer Fun

In early September we went with friends to Emerald Downs to watch the Horse Races.

"Come on Dover!!!"

 Clara and Sophia

Then a week later we went to Remlinger Farm, a cute park with all sorts of small amusement rides for younger kids.

 Riding horses...

 On the train.

 Boat ride

The hay pit and the hay maze.

The spinning apple barrels, similar to the Teacups at Disney world.

 Flying Pumpkins

 Miniature Ferris Wheel

The children LOVED Remlinger Farm, and we'll definitely have to go back there next year.

Labor Day

For Labor Day weekend, we rented a Yurt on Grayland beach.  Grayland beach is about 3 hours south of us, close to the Oregon border.  We chose that place because it is on the REAL ocean, not just the Puget Sound which is what we have near us.

This is a yurt.
Here is the inside of our yurt.  It had a bunkbed, and then a futon couch that folded down into a bed.  It had electric lights, and one outlet, and that was it.  Outside was a firepit and a picnic table.  I'm not a huge fan of tent camping, so I love it when we find things like this..

The first day was very warm and sunny, and we played in the ocean for hours and hours before heading to our yurt to cook dinner.  Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures on that first day.  These are from the morning of the second day.  Early in the morning it was too cool for swimming, so we walked along the beach.
The sand there was gray.  That might be why they call it Grayland Beach.  Just a thought.

It warmed up a little later.

Hyrum is warming up after playing in the water and mud.

Clara LOVED crawling along the tire tracks on the beach.  Silly baby.

This spot seemed very "Avonlea-esque", with the sandy trail winding through the grass to the ocean, so I had to snap a picture.

Clara's Birthday

Clara had a Care Bear birthday party.  Here is Hyrum lining up care bears for the take home bags.

While my second set of cakes were baking, Clara climbed up on the table and ate the first ones off the cooling racks.  (Don't worry, we didn't use those!!)

I made her a vanilla cake with lemon curd filling and a blackberry buttercream frosting.

 Covering the cake with fondant....

 Finished.

Russell helped me sew the Care Bear banner.

And we blew up 150 balloons.
 The finished banner.
 The cakes.
We invited some of our favorite families to come enjoy a barbecue with us.

 Kids playing.

 Playing the Cloud Scoop game.

 Russell instigated a balloon fight!

 It was a big hit!

 A balloon relay.

 Cute birthday girl!!

 Blowing out candles.

Opening presents, she was a pro at this!!!

 Play-dough!  Clara's most favorite thing!!
 Hugging her Care Bears.
It was a wonderful evening with friends and family, and Clara loved everything about her party.  Thank you to all of our awesome friends for coming to celebrate with us!!
